This is another assignment for “Edna’s Not Missing”!

I decided to create an image with Edna here, because this is where she finds me!

I got a picture of Edna, and cropped it. I then took a picture of the bridge towers and used this one for the background.

I used the Preview Application which makes it easy to crop and then paste on to another photo you have.

Here is the original picture.

FullSizeRender 2

Here is the picture of Edna that I cropped. On the application, I  clicked on the left hand square button. From here, I clicked “Lasso tool” which lets you crop wherever the mouse goes!

As you can see, this is my very cute picture of Edna!! I wanted a cute face for the assignment. I apologize for my cropping skills, my hands are always shaky when it comes to these things!!

I used Control (C) and Control (V) to copy and paste the Edna picture onto the UMW picture. Here is the final product!

Hope you can see Edna peering over the tower’s fence!

Love at First Shot: Ty the Knot

Love at First Shot: Take/Find a picture of a couple who are obviously in love. Use the picture to tell a story. Give the story some background and maybe even create a dialogue between the two or tell the story from each point of view. Just give it some detail and create a background to your photo! It can be a true story or a completely made up one, just have fun with it! (2.5 stars).

Ty and Krista had wanted to get married ever since they met in high school. They were always friends with the same people, but never got connected since Krista was one year younger than him. Until one small party at Ty’s best friend’s house, they ended up sitting on the same couch got to finally talk. He knew of Krista, thought she was really cute, but never thought it would ever happen with her. “She was one of those girls who was too good for me,” Ty said. She brought up her favorite ice-cream restaurant and he talked about his classes. There was a spark and they exchanged numbers, and started dating instantly. “He was a year above me, smart and funny, I really liked him,” Krista said.

A few short years later, Ty went off to college, leaving Krista scared and at home alone. Ty didn’t know what was to come, but he sure did love Krista. With FaceTime every Tuesday and lots of short visits, the couple stayed together, beating all odds. “No one ever did this. Every couple we knew broke things off after high school,” Krista stated. The couple continued at separate colleges, still visiting and basically being a second student at the other’s school. They had become closer than ever before and started thinking about the future together.

And after they both graduated from their own universities, Ty went to Medical School and pursued his dream of being a doctor. Krista was still in the midst of applying to graduate schools, she still had no idea what she wanted to do with her life, but she did know she wanted to be with Ty. “She was always the one. I knew I needed to make it real.” Ty said, smiling. He popped the question one night, on the beach, with fireworks in the background.

The couple “Tyed” the knot in October at an outdoor hometown setting with flowers and an ice-cream cake. Krista and Ty had a wonderful, laid-back wedding with their friends and family who all knew this was the plan since the beginning. “Ty and Krista always worked. He was perfect for her.” Krista’s best friend Elaine said.

Ty and Krista are still in love, living 15 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, and trying to decide what color to paint the walls in their new house.

For this visual assignment, I chose a short clip and made it into a GIF. I wanted to use a clip of a couple being happy at their wedding, which is just the beginning of a two people’s life together. I think a picture wouldn’t do this couple justice. I thought these two looked insanely happy at their wedding, so I created a GIF. I think sometimes couples talk too much, (don’t get me wrong, talking is very needed), but in this GIF, my character, Krista, is just giddy as can be and is dancing around. Meanwhile, Ty is just staring and smiling at his beautiful bride. I wanted to direct the attention to this, because this is what love is! I clipped the GIF at this point so this would be the focus. In relation to design elements we have been discussing, the couple is both wearing the color white, which means light and/or perfection. I thought this color also accurately correlated with the story I told of Krista and Ty.

I really enjoyed this assignment, maybe because I love weddings so much?! I also like creating stories and I think my story represents the happiness that is being shown in the GIF. My inspiration comes from being happy and knowing the feeling of being loved.

Visual Assignment: Me and Bae

Me and Bae: For this assignment, we were told to choose a picture of a famous couple and crop their faces out. Then, I had to crop the faces of myself and my “bae”, insert these faces into the photo, and add a funny description. (2.5 stars)

Original photo of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds:

HOLLYWOOD, CA - JUNE 15: Actors Blake Lively (L) and Ryan Reynolds arrive at the premiere of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Green Lantern" held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on June 15, 2011 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images)

Changed photo of Me and my “Bae”:

Miranda and Boyd step out onto the red carpet for the Emmy’s. Boyd is looking handsome as ever, and Miranda is wearing her fabulous hair in a side braid. But wait, Miranda is posing like a duck! She has Paintbrush lipstick on, and is giving the paparazzi the ultimate duck face! Very surprising for a celeb like Miranda! Boyd seems to be the laid back one, while Miranda shows her outgoing side, which definitely balances the couple out. Maybe both will get a win tonight! We will see!

I really enjoyed creating this image. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are so perfect, so I had to use a photo of them. I knew I had heard of a website that utilizes people’s faces and inserting them into “holes”. It’s simply called Face in a Hole.  I uploaded the original image of Blake & Ryan, and then had to use the crop tool to crop out their faces precisely. Then, I uploaded a photo of myself, and inserted it into Blake’s hole, and did the same for my “bae”. The site also has tools, including rotate, zoom, and color saturation to make the image look realistic! I used them all in order to perfect the image.

I liked this assignment, one, because I got to be Blake Lively in this photo, and two, I got to create a story with this funny image of me and my “bae” (Boyd is actually my real boyfriend). I used my imagination, which is a big word for me with the visual aspect of the week. I wanted to act like I was a gossip magazine reporter, and this was a major photo in my magazine!

Visual Assignment: Splash the Color

Splash the Color: For this visual assignment, our task is to remove color from a photo, and then restore color to an object in the photo. (3.5 stars)

Photo

I took this photo over the summer, where there were only dead grass and weeds around. Then, I came across these small daisies. It was so random to see them sprouted, so I had to capture them. I chose this photo because I think flowers are so simple yet beautiful. No matter what was around them, weeds and all, the flowers bloomed and became so bright. I wanted to emphasize their brightness in this photo. This idea is also something that can apply to certain situations, whether it be school, sports, work, or relationships. Although there may be things around you blocking your shine, someone or something always brings out your greatness so everyone can see for themselves.

I used the Aviary application, which is available online and can be downloaded on your phone. Once I was on the app, I chose the “Splash” icon. It turned the photo black and white. From here, I was able to use the “Smart Color” tool and click on areas where I wanted color. I then clicked the daisies to revive them of their color.

I enjoyed doing this assignment, because I always see this splash tool being used. It usually emphasizes something that may be a hidden or not the main part of an image.

Say it Like Peanut Butter: Jingle Bell Rock

Mean_Girls_Jingle_Bell_Rock

Story: As you may see, my first Digital Storytelling Assignment, is a Mean Girls GIF. This is a classic movie that I probably know every word to. Anyways, Lindsay Lohan plays the main character, who moves to a new high school all the way from Africa where she was home-schooled her whole life. She plays innocent Cady, who arrives having no idea about high school, weird boys, hard teachers, and of course mean girls.

Process: After reading our first Visual Assignment, I was excited. I always see GIF’s on the internet, they are brief pictures of any video clip or picture that has subtle movement. I was thinking about what movie I wanted to use; and I thought after a long week I could use some humor, so of course I ventured to Mean Girls. This clip is of the “Plastics” (i.e. this is what the mean group of girls call themselves in the movie.) dancing rather provocatively to the famous Christmas song, Jingle Bell Rock. May I add they are at a school talent show?

Work: I did some research and found a helpful site called Make a Gif, which led me to create my masterpiece. First, you can pick which method you want to use. I picked Youtube, but you can select others including pictures, webcam, and video. I uploaded my YouTube URL, and picked which part of the clip I wanted to utilize. From here, it shows you what the GIF will look like so you have some kind of idea, which is really great in my opinion. My GIF length is 5 seconds long, which is a perfect amount of time for these clips. After I was done editing the clip, I was done and my GIF was complete! It was simple and fast and I will probably create more after this.
