Apophenia: Find something in your house. Take a picture, let your imagination churn. Make as many different augmented versions as you can think of. Help others see what’s in your head. (3 stars)
I looked on my desk immediately, and decided I would use a bottle of nail polish. It was close and handy, and I thought it would make this assignment more fun.
Next, I decided to use my Sketchbook App. It was very easy to work with. I just choose a color and pick a utensil and sketch!! Here is a screenshot of the application:
My first thought was it was a backbone. And me loving animals, I went straight to creating an insect. I decided to make a butterfly! I added wings and antennae.
After examining the bottle, I saw the name of the color: Ladylike. The mauve color reminded me of a pretty skin tone, so I created a lady. With the fall weather soon approaching, I decided to give her some tanning time on the beach.
My next thought about the nail polish was that it resembled the shape of a lamp. For this one, I cropped a lamp shade and added it to the nail polish photo, using Preview’s “Lasso Tool”. After this, I clicked copy, and then paste onto the nail polish image.
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a lamp with nail polish inside?!
This visual assignment was fun! I just took a picture of a plain nail polish bottle and let my imagination free. I also took this picture with the concept of depth in mind. In the foreground, you can see the nail polish with the shadows in detail. In the background, you can see blurred lights and areas that don’t show as much detail. I like doing this with my photos because it creates a different perception then just having the the nail polish close to the camera. This way, there is a background that makes truly brings the photo to life.
This assignment lets anyone’s imagination run wild! In previous posts, I have said that this week is all about imagination. I really enjoy this aspect that is being shown in all assignments given this week!
